  • A Touch of Watercolor!

Adding watercolors to your cards and tags is not as scary as it might sound! In fact it is much easier than using colored sprays as you have control over the exact colors, control over the placement of the color, and there won’t be over spray!

    Which Watercolors Should I Use?

Art Philosophy Watercolor Confections are now available in twelve different palettes (so there are truly colorways for every style and theme!) The cute tins fold up beautifully for crafting on the go. The pans stay dry until you want to use them, (so no spillage!), and there are multiple mixing wells to achieve that perfect blue or green you need to match your project.

How Do I Add The Color To My Projects?

Pair the Confections palette with a water brush for beautiful results.

    What is a waterbrush?

We are so glad you asked. It’s one of those tools you never knew you needed! It is a hollow paint brush which allows you to fill the reservoir with water, then slightly squeeze to disperse the water through the brush tip. It’s wonderful tool for children (no spilling their water cups) and for adults as you control the wetness of your brush when picking up colors from the pans! (Once you play with one you’ll never go back to a water cup and normal brush again.)

There are other ways to use a water brush too, (fill with pre-colored inks), so look into grabbing a couple! Now let’s jump in to a fabulous project by Elena Morgun, showing ways to add watercolor to cards and tags!

“Here’s my special recipe for using watercolors on my festive cards. First apply the paste through the stencil on to watercolor paper. (This paper will help absorb the liquid without warping.)/”

“Then add the colored “stains” with watercolors. Choose calm colors for a softer look, (or brighter colors for an energetic feel.) Imagine warm cocoa and create your own background to mimic that cozy feel. You can control where the color goes by pre-wetting the area, then slowly adding color with your waterbrush. The color wills lowly spread out to only the wet areas. This is a wet-on-wet technique that gives you so much more control than from colored sprays.”

“Next add pieces of paper and a bit of decor from the Christmas in the Country line. Spread white splashes, like snowflakes, on postcards with Impasto paint thinned down with a touch of water.” ~ Elena
