Springtime is officially here, so what better way to kick it off than a feature with PASTELS?!?
Sharon Ziv and Riikka Kovasin both added gorgeous pastel flowers and watercolors to their projects today. Sharon used one of our free coloring pages and transferred it to her canvas, while Riikka chose the Capri collection to create a freestyle, photo cut-out layout!
“Hi there, Prima friends! Today I am extra happy to share with you my canvas. As you all probably feel, the world has gone crazy.”
“With limited ability to go outside, and with no schools, the kids are at home and, although its wonderful to have them here with me, its hard to find the time to create a full piece and not just bits and pieces here and there.”
“I think that what helped me the most was when I saw Prima’s free printable images and I knew I would love to show you how you can take them and change them to your own needs!” (See all free print-outs here: https://www.artphilosophy.com/free-download/ )
“I have created a background with Redesign transfers on which I used the laser printed image with a transfer technique.” (Add print-out to background with gel medium, then slowly rub wet paper away leaving the image! The image will be in reverse after application.)
“Next I added some flowers, acrylics, and water colors….and to make a long story short – I just had some FUN. “
“I hope you will find it inspiring and it will make you create through this scary times. Hugs!” Sharon Ziv

“If you’ve followed my projects along the years, you’ve probably noticed that I love my black gesso! But every now and then I enjoy working on lighter color schemes as well. So, when I read the pastel theme, I decided to go for it! I chose to work with Capri collection as it comes with pretty pastels but also has some darker tones that I could add into the project to spice things up.”
“For this project I started with a beautiful turquoise and white background from the Capri 12×12 pad in order to fit in the pastel theme. I loved the beautiful color and also the wonderful texture the barnacles have.”
“When going through the Capri papers to find more inspiration I had my eye fixated to the pile of suitcases in one of the sheets. I decided to do a travel inspired layout and searched for a photo to go with the theme.”
“Instead of a travel photo I found a photo of my girls climbing on a rock and remembered the storybook like layouts of Brit Sviggum. Inspired by her, I cut my girls out of the photo and made a pile of suitcases for them to be climbing on to.”
“To me adding something light and something darker to a project adds the both ends of the scale – white and light colors to bring in the light and darker tones to add contrast and order. So, even though this project was done for a pastel themed post, I used some darker tones as well.” ~ Riikka
