Adding dimensional elements to any project is the perfect way to add visual interest and texture. Our Design Team members show two very different ways to do this on their artful projects below. Either of these can be great inspiration to altering an item on hand, or starting up an original new project.

I started this tag with an idea of creating a grungy, rusty piece. But after adding some layers to it, I felt it needed some color. Luckily I had made the background using Capri collection so I had the perfect color to add on top – denim blue! I love how well it goes with the burlap and rust colors I had going in the background!

As the theme is gears I used several different ones gathered from Mechanicals sets. It’s perplexing and fantastic how well gears go to a multitude of projects – whether it’s sweet and romantic or grungy and rough, gears are always a good solution. It’s what you pair them with!

Hi, everyone! Traditionally, mechanical elements give the work a certain brutality. But today I would like to show you how to soften this effect. If you combine these elements with flowers or natural motifs, the work will not look so rough. You can also achieve this goal by using a more delicate, pastel color palette or adding mechanicals as additional decoration between layers. Hope my tips will be useful for you.

“Today is all about Gears/Mechanicals at Prima. I decided to go a different route with this theme. I created a watercolor layout with lots of chipboard gear shapes which have all been painted with amazing Finnabair art alchemy paints. I used the Prima Princess stamp Zara featuring her hair as the focal point for my gear cluster embellishment. I coloured the background with some Finnabair liquid acrylic paint and added splatters. I adorned the rest of my page with hardware accents, art pebbles, sequins and rhinestones.” – Tanya

I love using Finnabair’s Mechanicals on my albums. They are perfect for adorning the cover but also I add them in each pages.  They can be painted with gesso or rust paste effect, I love adding waxes on them; they can be cut … So many possibilities and they have the perfect size for albums !

Here I created a new fake altered book using an old Prima collection Epiphany and a lot of Finnabair’s products.
