Mix in a Little Bit of Halloween Magic!

In case you were not in the know, mixed media is when you use two or more mediums in a single work of art. With such an open-ended concept it is no wonder that mixed media projects are all so unique. Our very talented design team has created some truly unique projects inspired by all the fun of Halloween. From a magically altered brush to an adorable pumpkin, from a vintage-inspired telephone booth to a spooky birdhouse altered to look like a witch doctor’s hut. We hope this inspires you to stretch your creative muscles and mix in a little bit of Halloween in your next mixed-media project!

“Today is all about Mixed Media over at Prima Marketing Inc. Sharing a double altered Paint Brush featuring lots of amazing Finnabair products.

I created some castings with the moulds and air dry clay.

I prepped the moulded pieces including the paint brushes individually with black gesso.

Once everything was dry I adhered the small paint brush to the top of the big brush and
added some texture with a stencil and sand texture paste. I gave the brushes another coat of black gesso.

I adhered all the other pieces (except the portrait and witch hat casting) with 3D gloss gel, playing around with the composition until I was happy with the placement.

I painted the entire project with metallique paints mixing the colors as I go, repeating the process until I was happy with the result. 

I prepped the portrait with clear gesso and colored this piece with watercolors and liquid acrylic paints. I painted the witch hat with sparks paint. I adhered these two pieces to the brush

I highlighted some areas with metallique wax.

I added some more texture to the brush with metallic flakes, glitter, and sequins, I adhered these with soft gloss gel.

I adorned the brush with a pretty bow using some ribbon.” – Tanya

“With today’s project, I wanted to show you that you should not be afraid of the concept of mixed media. Usually, you probably have in your mind designs with lots of different paints, pastes, waxes, and sprays. As you can see, all these products can also be useful for less media artwork. 

Here, I used rust effect pastes to make texture and colors on my pumpkin, and liquid acrylics to paint the mould elements and add a vintage effect to the background paper.” –Kasia
